Take On Tough Routes with Confidence: Five Key Benefits of the Atlantic Series Front Loader®
When your routes demand heavy duty performance, you need a refuse and recycling vehicle built without compromise. The Atlantic Series Front Loader® delivers rugged reliability, high productivity and the kind of durability that gives fleets of all sizes real performance day after day. In this blog we’ll explore five key benefits of the Atlantic Front Loader.
1. Built for Tough Routes
The Atlantic refuse vehicle is more than a front loader; it’s engineered to stand up to some of the most demanding collection environments. With AR450 abrasion-resistant steel throughout the body and lift arms rated up to 10,000 lb., the Atlantic Series manages heavy loads without skipping a beat. The clean headframe design optimizes serviceability, keeps hydraulic and electrical components protected and controls downtime.
“The Atlantic Front Loader has been around for decades and over that time, it’s earned the reputation as highly durable, highly capable and easy to maintain,” said Jeff Meyer, Product Manager at McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing. “There’s a reason it’s found in so many communities – it keeps performing despite the tough demands of refuse and recycling collection.”
2. Clean Hydraulics, Low Total Cost of Ownership
Contaminants in hydraulic oil can have an impact on the performance of a trucks hydraulics system. The Atlantic Series features Excalibre™ premium packing cylinders with patented tool-steel shavers and nitrided rods which help control wear, corrosion and hydraulic contamination. That means fewer unplanned repairs and more predictable maintenance intervals, which promotes an outstanding total cost of ownership.
3. Designed for Simplicity
The Atlantic Front Loader is designed for ease of service and uptime. The electrical panel is located on the side of body and is accessible from ground level so technicians can troubleshoot with ease. McNeilus uses laser-etched keypads in the cab providing years of service with easy-to-read symbols. The pneumatic joystick provides responsive feedback to operators and pneumatic valves allow a simple way to service the system. Troubleshooting can be less complicated with fewer systems involved to function the truck.
4. Built Around Your Requirements
Each community and hauler has different needs and McNeilus is proud to offer different truck chassis options to support those needs. The Atlantic Front Loader is configurable with Battle, Mack, Peterbilt 520 and AutoCar chassis. This flexibility enables efficiency in the manufacturing process while giving fleets the options they need. Tailgate CNG configurations are available in 60, 75, 90 and 105 DGE capacities, with additional CNG options configured to suit your fleet. For fleets seeking cleaner fuel and low emissions, these options give the flexibility to move toward alternative-fuel powertrains without compromising body performance. McNeilus offers a variety of light packages and strobing features to fit your needs and requirements. The company even has residential options and standard hooks which fit up to any container for residential pickup. These can also be configured with dual steer applications. Joystick and control placement for each cab optimizes ergonomics for the operator. All of this is to ensure customers have the product that fits their unique needs.
5. Designed For the Full Product Lifecycle
Designed for the long haul, McNeilus knows every second matters and downtime can translate into lost dollars. As a result, the Atlantic front loader features a simple, easy-to-maintain design, with replacement parts readily available through McNeilus’ eCommerce platform, StreetSmart Parts. McNeilus’ dedicated team, along with its robust dealer network, helps ensure customers have the parts, service and support needed to keep fleets moving forward. StreetSmart Parts provides aftermarket parts and solutions for the Atlantic front loader, as well as other makes and models and refuse solutions.
What’s Next for the Atlantic Front Loader?
Model year updates continue to be made for the Atlantic Front Loader, as well as other McNeilus products. Atlantic Front Loaders produced after January 2026 include an enhanced hopper door. Utilizing the size and similar design methodology of the McNeilus® Zero Radius™ Automated Side Loader, the hopper door has been updated for the Atlantic series. This new hopper design was developed based on customer feedback and the robust design of the ZR automated side loader. The hopper door offers two handles: one on the side and one above for ease in entry/exit. The door’s handle is located so it can be opened from the ground level with ease. Additionally, the door can be opened with the arms positioned in the home or forward positions, providing access for the different situations operators encounter at the transfer station or landfill. The door has also been reinforced to withstand any refuse coming into contact.
“At McNeilus and across Oshkosh Corporation, we continue to innovate to ensure our products and technology are promoting safety, efficiency and productivity,” said Meyer. “We share technology across platforms and across our businesses while working closely with customers to ensure our innovations add value and meet the demands of the industry. Utilizing the hopper door design from the McNeilus Zero Radius Automated Side Loader and applying it to the Atlantic Series front loaders is a prime example.”
