Dodge Center, MN (
October 29, 2024) – McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing, Inc., (McNeilus) an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK) business, announced an order from Pride Disposal & Recycling Company (Pride Disposal) for two McNeilus® Volterra™ ZSL™ electric refuse and recycling collection vehicles (eRCVs). The new vehicles will be delivered to the Oregon-based waste and recycling hauler, marking a significant step forward in Pride Disposal’s sustainability efforts and commitment to advanced technology.

Pride Disposal, a longstanding user of McNeilus trucks, selected the Volterra ZSL eRCV to meet the unique demands of their diverse service area, which includes both urban neighborhoods and rural communities. With varying elevations and some routes requiring a 30-minute drive from their facility, Pride Disposal needed a solution that could handle the geographic challenges while maintaining sufficient battery life. Following a successful demonstration in which the Volterra ZSL electric vehicle performed flawlessly across all service areas, the company chose to integrate two electric vehicles into its fleet.

"We’ve relied on McNeilus trucks for years because of their reliability and high quality, and the Volterra ZSL eRCV was the first electric vehicle that we felt could truly meet all of our needs," said Kristin Leichner, president of Pride Disposal & Recycling Company. "After demoing the truck, our drivers were impressed not only with its range and performance but also with its advanced technology. We're looking forward to controlling emissions and enhancing the efficiency of our operations while providing clean, quiet service for the communities we serve."

The McNeilus Volterra ZSL eRCV is a purpose built, fully integrated electric refuse and recycling collection vehicle designed to deliver exceptional performance while supporting sustainability goals. The truck features innovative technology, including a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warnings and advanced emergency braking. These features, combined with best-in-class visibility, help drivers navigate routes more safely and efficiently.

“We’re proud to support Pride Disposal in achieving their electrification and sustainability goals with the McNeilus Volterra ZSL refuse and recycling collection vehicle,” said Lee Dreas, vice president and general manager of McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing. “By incorporating advanced technology features, a reduced total cost of ownership and zero-emissions, the Volterra ZSL eRCV represents a no-compromise solution for refuse and recycling collection in even the most challenging service areas.”

Designed to meet stringent environmental regulations, the Volterra ZSL electric vehicle holds zero-emission certifications from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB), helping companies like Pride Disposal qualify for low-emission incentives and comply with evolving emissions standards. The electric vehicles also feature a user-friendly interface, including a 15-inch touchscreen display and 12-inch digital cluster, streamlining controls for a more intuitive driving experience.

The Volterra ZSL eRCVs will be produced at McNeilus’ new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, while the compaction assemblies are built at the company's headquarters in Minnesota. This integrated production approach ensures the highest quality standards and quick delivery to customers.

As Pride Disposal continues to explore ways to improve its environmental footprint, the introduction of the Volterra ZSL electric refuse trucks will play a key role in reducing emissions and enhancing the overall efficiency of waste collection services throughout Oregon.
